Bye Law Change History

BYE LAW CHANGE HISTORY
9th Apr 2010                       Approved at E.G.M. for implementation at the next A.G.M.
The approved version was originally numbered consecutively, but
Subsequently changed to be numbered within sections to make
insertion of new Bye Laws easier. This occurred prior to
implementation.
26th Nov 2010                   Five changes made at A.G.M.
1. Document Title changed from: -
‘NORTHAW & CUFFLEY BOWLING CLUB RULES’.
to: -
‘NORTHAW & CUFFLEY BOWLING CLUB BYE LAWS’
(see AGM Minutes Item 9.5)
2. Bye Law 3.2 second sentence changed from: -
‘The only exception to this is a competition having a fixed date
to play the game, where there are no rinks available for play.’
to: -
‘The only exceptions to this are a competition having a fixed
date to play the game, or in exceptional circumstances
approved by the Committee, an external Club fixture, where
there are no rinks available for play.’

3. Bye Law 3.6 added as follows: -
‘Members may not smoke on the Green.’
(see AGM Minutes Item 10.3)
4. Bye Law 5.4 changed from: -
‘A complete novice with no previous experience of bowling will
not be allowed to enter any competitions in their first season
with the club.’
to: -
‘Novice bowlers with no previous experience of bowling must
undertake a course of instruction with the Club Coach(s) and
will only be allowed to play on the Green with the
recommendation of the Club Coach(s).’

5. Bye Law 5.5 added as follows: -
‘Handicaps for the Men’s & Ladies Handicap Competition will
be decided by a Committee comprising of the Men’s & Ladies
Captains; the Men’s & Ladies Vice Captains; the Competition
Secretary, and their assistant if of a different gender.’

25th Nov 2011                   Three changes made at A.G.M.
1. Bye Laws 3.3, 3.4, 4.2 & 4.4 changed as follows: -
‘Rule’ changed to read ‘Bye Law’.
and Bye Laws 3.3 & 3.4 changed as follows: -
‘11’ changed to read ‘3.2’’
and Bye Law 4.2 changed as follows: -
‘17’ changed to read ‘4.3’’

2. Bye Law 2.7 added as follows: -
‘Applications for Non Playing Membership will normally only be
accepted from the spouse or partner of a Full or Life Member of
the Club. Applications for transfer from Full Membership to
Non Playing Membership will normally only be accepted from
members who have been Full Member for at least 3 years.
Any exception to the above will be at the discretion of the
Committee.’

3. New Bye Law 2.6 inserted as follows and subsequent Bye Laws in
the section renumbered appropriately: -
‘It is the responsibility of the proposer of a new Member to
introduce them to the relevant Captain, whose responsibility it
will be to introduce the new Member to the club.’

30th Nov 2012                   Two changes made at A.G.M.
1. Bye Law 2.4 changed from: -
‘In the event of a new member joining the Club midway
through the playing season the General Committee have the
power to reduce the subscription paid for that year.’
to: -
‘A Full Member joining the Club after the start of the playing
season will pay a pro rata Membership fee as agreed by the
Committee.’

2. Bye Law 3.5 changed from: -
‘The Green Ranger will make all decisions as to the state of the
green being playable, and with or without mats. The only
people who can make decisions in the absence of the Green
Ranger, are the persons nominated by the General Committee,
who must visit the Green before making a decision.
A list of these people will be displayed adjacent to the rink
reservation book..’
to: -
‘The captains or vice captains will make decisions as to the
state of the green being playable. The membership in general
is responsible for decisions regarding the use of wet mats.
However, if any damage is observed to be taking place
during a session, wet mats MUST be used.’

22nd Nov 2013                  No changes made at A.G.M.
28th Nov 2014                   One change made at A.G.M.
1. Bye Law 2.5 changed from: -
‘In joining the Club, Members agree to assist in the general
upkeep of the Club as appropriate i.e. Clubhouse cleaning,
Kitchen duty, Bar rota.’
to: -
‘In joining the Club, Members agree to assist in the general
upkeep of the Club as appropriate e.g. Clubhouse cleaning,
Kitchen duty, Bar rota. Members will be excused from duties if
they are not fit to take part. The participation in any duty by a
non playing member, or any other member over the age of
eighty years shall be on a voluntary basis.’

20th Nov 2015                   One change made at A.G.M.
1. Bye Law 5.3 changed from: -
‘In order to enter club competitions members must have
nominated, and if selected played, for four friendly matches in
the preceding season. The only exceptions to this are
members who joined the Club in the preceding season, and
members who through illness missed the majority of the
preceding season.’
to: -
‘In order to enter club competitions members must have
nominated for, and if selected, played four friendly matches,
in the preceding season, two of which must be away fixtures.
The only exceptions to this are Members who joined the Club

25th Nov 2016                   One change made at A.G.M.
1. Bye Law 2.5 changed by including “bar duty by” in the last
sentence so that it now reads: -
‘In joining the Club, Members agree to assist in the general
upkeep of the Club as appropriate e.g. Clubhouse cleaning,
Kitchen duty, Bar rota. Members will be excused from duties
if they are not fit to take part. The participation in any duty by
a non playing member, or bar duty by any other member over
the age of eighty years, shall be on a voluntary basis.’

23rd Nov 2018                   Three changes made at A.G.M.
1. The first sentence of Bye Law 5.3 changed to exclude participation
in indoor fixtures so that it now reads: -
‘In order to enter club competitions Members must have
nominated for, and if selected, played four friendly matches in
the preceding outdoor season, two of which must be away
fixtures. Winter indoor games are not included.’

2. A new Bye Law 2.9 added to clarify the need to complete a
relevant Membership application form when transferring between
membership classes, the new Bye-Law to read: -
‘Members wishing to transfer between membership classes
must complete the appropriate application form.’

3. A new Bye Law 2.10 added to clarify the ownership of Club Keys
obtained by members, the new Bye-Law to read: -
‘Keys to the club may be obtained on payment of a deposit,
the amount of which to be determined by the Committee. All
such keys remain the property of the Club and MUST be
returned on ceasing to be a Member, the deposit will be
refunded if requested.’

22nd Nov 2019                  One change made at A.G.M.
1. ‘, if requested’ added before the full stop at the end of Bye Law 2.3
so that it now reads: -
‘In the event of a member being unable to play for a large
part of the season the General Committee have the power to
reimburse all or part of the subscription paid, if requested.’
